Bregman Grand Slam silences Washington
When I booked a work-related trip to New York City for mid-October, I knew there was a good chance of a playoff game just a short distance from where I was staying (given that there are six teams in the Boston → Washington corridor). What I didn’t expect is that I would get the opportunity to see World Series, Game 4.
With no context on how secondary market ticket prices would evolve over the week leading up to the World Series, I chose to secure a seat that was somewhat justifiable, given the insane ticket prices on StubHub. So, I entered Nationals Park two hours early to find a decent spot to enjoy my Standing Room Only ticket.
By the end of the first inning, I managed to squeeze myself into a place on the 200 Level along the 1st baseline, with a completely unobstructed view, until the seventh inning. At that point, I headed down to the 100 level and finished watching the game next to home plate.
As rookie Jose Urquidy held the Nationals to two hits and no earned runs through five innings, the Astros four runs through four would have been enough to win the game. With Alex Bregman’s grand slam home run in the seventh — which felt like payback for the Brantley walk in game three — all but locked up their second win of the series.
In case you were wondering, attending a World Series game is a beautiful experience, no matter who wins or loses.
