Given the heat and humidity, we were so overheated after the first two innings that we needed to get some water and spend some time in the shade. At around 3:00 p.m., there was a thunderstorm warning, so they cleared out the lower bowl and covered the field. After an almost 40-minute break, the game resumed and finished up quickly.
While getting hits in each inning until the 4th, the Cardinals couldn’t put together any runs until stringing together five singles to bring in three runs. They added to their totals on a home run by Nolan Gorman in the fifth and locked up the game with four runs in the sixth, powered by a home run from Paul Goldschmidt.
As a side note, there is no way that 42,626 people were in attendance at the stadium today. I’m guessing that the Cardinals publish their numbers based on tickets sold.
