I was looking forward to my first game of the season in Toronto so that I could try out my season ticket seats, which are in a very different section this season. Priced out of the newly renovated premier seats over the dugout, I decided on a pair right behind home plate.
Logistically, I’m happy with the change, though these seats will take more effort to manage and sell this season. Being in the last row of the 100s, they don’t feel as ‘in the action’ as last year’s seats. However, the clearer view of pitches makes it much easier to follow the game. I also appreciate that my seats are right on the aisle, so getting in and out is easy, which is a big help at the end of the 9th.
As far as the game, it was a real stinker. With six earned runs before he was pulled in the 4th, Kevin Gausman was not sharp, giving up ten hits and ballooning his ERA to 11.57. Ryan McMahon led the Rockies offense with 4 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 Euns.
Given the Blue Jays slow start and how competitive the rest of the AL East is looking, this could be a very long season.
