As a long-time Max Scherzer fan (I first saw him pitch in 2014 when he was still with the Detroit Tigers), I couldn’t be happier that the Blue Jays found a way to get him to join the team. I realize that signing him is a real gamble, given all of his recent injury issues, specifically around his thumb’s nerves. On the other hand, adding a future Hall of Famer who is a fierce competitor should have a significant impact on the clubhouse and the pitching staff.

Dealing with thumb issues today, it was a good move to get Scherzer out of the game in the 4th, and not risk any significant damage and time on the Injured List.

Unfortunately, Toronto’s bullpen couldn’t keep the Orioles off the base paths and added seven runs to the two given up in the first inning by Scherzer.
