In Vancouver for a family event, I made sure to take in the Blue Jays High-A team, the not-very-creatively-named Vancouver Canadians. While I don’t follow the players in the lower levels, there has been quite a bit of noise about Arjun Nimmala, who was hitting in the .290s to start the game (he ended up falling quite a bit from there to end his season). He only got one hit but managed three walks in today’s game.
Sitting only 2 rows back from the field, I got a good view of the players and noticed that the Hillsboro Hops starting pitcher was throwing in the mid-90s. At first, it surprised me, but I reminded myself that players at this age may already have the power but are still working on their delivery and command.
While Vancouver’s Nick Goodwin had the best game, with a home run and three RBIs, it was the walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th by Victor Arias that gave the Canadians the win.
Little did I know I would also get to enjoy a new Mascot race, this time a Sushi Race by Chop and Sticks, Miss PC Roll, and Chef Wasabi.
