After such a decisive win over the Yankees in the ALDS, the excitement level was through the roof to start the game. With a leadoff home run from George Springer, there was a sense of inevitability in the home crowd that Toronto would win the game. As the innings ticked on after the Santander single in the second, it became clear that the Blue Jays’ bats would be silent tonight.

On the back of Bryce Miller’s solid six innings of work, the Mariners pitcher’s combined effort led to a Maddux with a stat line of two hits, three walks and four strikeouts with 72 strikes through 99 pitches.

Almost on cue, Cal Raleigh smashed a 420-foot solo home run off of Kevin Gausman in the top of the sixth inning, to tie the game. Julio Rodríguez then walked and made it to second on a wild pitch from Brendon Little. He then scored easily on a Jorge Polanco single to left field to take the lead.

Coming back out in the seventh, Polanco managed to single off of Seranthony Domínguez to cash in the Mariners’ third run of the game, to solidify their lead and eventual win.
