Ever since my last playoff game in 2019, I had been dreaming of making it back to see some post-season games. While I would be happy to enjoy the extra level of intensity in any stadium, it was special to get the opportunity in Toronto, my de facto second home, with my main ball team.

With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. starting the scoring with a home run in the bottom of the first, it was clear that the Blue Jays’ leader and star player was going to be fully present in this game, series, and playoffs. With Alejandro Kirk coming out of a slumping September to end the season strong with multiple home run games, it was fitting that he would get his next one in the second. While Kevin Gausman made it to the sixth, giving up only one run, the Blue Jays managed to get Luis Gil out in the third.

Toronto managed to string together a series of hits in the seventh to score four more runs. They then topped off the eighth with another string of hits, led by a second Kirk homer to further solidify their lead at 10-1.

With their first post-season win since 2016, the Blue Jays made as clear a statement as possible that they had what it took to not only beat the Yankees but to do so in an overwhelming fashion.
