After coming off a complete game win in Game Two of the World Series, I was hoping Yamamoto would stumble on short rest. With 96 pitches through six innings, the Yankees decided to go with Justin Wrobleski to start the seventh.
While New York managed to grab three runs off of Kevin Gausman in a rough third inning, their bats were otherwise quiet the rest of the game.
With three innings to go and Los Angeles’ ace out of the game, the Blue Jays were well positioned to close their two-run deficit. In the bottom of the ninth, Addison Barger launched a ball deep into left field, which became stuck in the wall, was ruled a dead ball, and was limited to a ground-rule double. With runners on second and third, Toronto couldn’t make anything of the opportunity, ending the game on a double play.
It was a really disappointing as everyone in the building was hoping to celebrate a World Series win.
