Given that yesterday’s game was rained out, today was a make-up doubleheader. As I had a train to St. Louis later in the afternoon, I could only make it to one of the two games.
Opened in 1973, Kaufmann Stadium shows its age, but the Royals have done a very good job keeping it up to date. The concessions are varied and adding elements like the Hall of Fame to the park that have enhanced the fan experience. What I didn’t like is that it’s way outside of downtown in a parking lot-centric sporting complex.
While the Rays had a dominant win, the most exciting moment was Bobby Witt Jr.’s fifteenth home run. Clearly, he is the heart of the Royals and will be carrying this team on his back for years to come. Jose Siri was the star player of the day for the Rays. With two solo home runs, one at the top of the third and the other in the ninth, he had a solid game.
