Fort Garry Hotel

Hotel Fort Garry in Winnipeg, historic stone building with green-copper roofs under blue sky.

From Upper Fort Garry, Winnipeg, MB

While I have been to Winnipeg before for a friend’s wedding, to attend a conference, to visit a Plank teammate, and to tour through North America for almost four months, this trip had a unique purpose.

I was honoured to be a guest of the Manitoba Métis Federation, The National Government of the Red River Métis, for two days of meetings and touring to visit important sites in their nation’s history. As we are currently collaborating with their team on an online exhibit about the history of the buffalo hunt, we all felt it was important for our team to understand better the historical context of this critical part of Métis culture.
