With a dominant pitching performance over six innings, Yusei Kikuchi gave up only one run while striking out nine batters. Alongside his efforts, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a non-typical but solid 4-5 evening, with two singles and two walks. The real story of the night was how good Toronto’s fielding was, with Dalton Varsho and Ernie Clement saving the day.

Coming in at the top of the 9th to end the game, Jordan Romano managed to earn the save, but not as cleanly as the Rogers Centre crowd would have hoped. After hitting Gleyber Torres, the Blue Jays closer gave up Alex Verdugo’s second double of the night to bring the Yankees within one run. With an infield groundout by Oswaldo Cabrera to end the game, the Blue Jays go into tomorrow’s game with two wins off of the division leader and best team in baseball.

I was pleased with the results of the five games I attended, with the Blue Jays going 4-1, handling the heart of the Yankees lineup well and keeping Soto and Judge pretty silent with only one hit between them so far.
