Even though I’d been to Philadelphia earlier this year, I wanted to take another opportunity to visit with friends and catch a few Phillies games. My goal was to get my annual visit to Citizens Bank Park back into my routine.
After considering different flights and accommodation options, I settled on the second week of September. I booked a stay at Sonder’s The Witherspoon right in Center City.
Located in the Witherspoon Building, Sonder refurbished one of Philadelphia’s historic buildings. Built in 1895 and on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the building’s main entrance is covered in ornate, decorative elements which give it a unique style.
With a whole week in the city, I managed to strike a good balance between working remotely, meeting up with friends, visiting sites and seeing baseball games (five to be exact). Some of my highlights were:
- 5 visits to Citizens Bank Park
- Daily walk down South Ave. and East Passyunk
- Cheesesteaks by Tony Luke’s, Jim’s and Sonny’s
- Charging up the Philadelphia Museum of Art stairs
- A beer at McGillin’s Olde Ale House, Philly’s Oldest Tavern
When I boarded my flight home Monday morning, I was clearly exhausted. While I enjoyed every minute of my trip, I didn’t give myself much rest or downtime. Maybe next time I’ll organize a trip at a bit of a slower pace, although it’s pretty unlikely.
