Barbie Game Day + Clement Walk Off
There was a lot of pink in the ballpark today as Toronto gave away 15,000 Barbie Hawaiian Shirts. What made it even weirder is that it was also a weekend of Camo hats to honour the military for Armed Forces Day. 🤷
The Tigers manage to strike first with Spencer Torkelson hitting a home run to left field to give Detroit a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would stay scoreless after that, with the Blue Jays only coming to life in the eighth.
The Blue Jays’ bats were silent for most of the game, with Olson keeping them to only one hit with six strikeouts through six innings. I was concerned that with so little hitting, the Tigers could pull off the 1-0 win. The tide turned once Toronto got to Detroit’s bullpen.
In the 8th, with Ernie Clement on first, Nathan Lukes executes a sacrifice bunt to get Ernie over to 2nd. Alejandro Kirk comes into the game to hit a single to bring in Clement to tie the score.
In the bottom of the 9th, Dalton Varsho hits a ball into right field for a double. With Varsho stealing 3rd, the Blue Jays decide to bring in the day-to-day Anthony Santander, who has been struggling with injuries, but the Tigers decide to intentionally walk him to get to Ernie Clement again, who hit a single to score Varsho for a walk-off win.
