While I was at the game to support the Cubs, I have to admit I was most excited about seeing the Pirates All-Star Paul Skenes pitch. While it was a shame he only went five innings, he was closing in on 100 pitches, and I didn’t expect to see him in the 6th. While he finished his day with no runs scored, he gave up four hits and two walks, so he was not in full command of his pitches, although he was routinely in the high 90s. The Cubs’ pitching was also strong most of the game until they let the Pirates load the bases in the eighth.
What surprised me the most, but it shouldn’t have, is that on a day when it was raining or drizzling the whole game, an almost sell-out crowd stuck it out and stayed in their seats.
