As I was preparing to leave New Orleans for my flight home via Toronto, I received a notification that my flight to Toronto had been delayed by an hour, so I quickly went into logistics mode to assess the situation. With my flight to Canada on its way, and the weather in Toronto and Montreal rough, I was convinced there was no way I would make it to Montreal today. So, I booked a hotel and a VIA Rail backup trip (which never happened since it was also cancelled), as I didn’t want to wait the extra 48 hours for my rescheduled flight home.
What worked out well was when I texted my good friends Geoff and Genevieve to let them know I was in Toronto for Christmas Eve; they immediately invited me over for dinner, which was so kind and generous of them. What was a hectic day turned into a memorable evening.
