Since it was the Philly Phanatic’s birthday, there was a lot of celebrating one of the best mascots ever today. With a slew of other fuzzy friends in attendance (even Gritty!), the Phillies players joined in by wearing Phanatic hats today.
Unfortunately, the team didn’t give the Phanatic much to celebrate.
The game started off well for the Phillies with runs in the first to give Luzardo enough run support to get through the 7th with only one earned run. Kerkering let the game get away by giving up a three-run home run in the eighth, allowing Miami to come back to tie the game and take it into extra innings. Strahm has historically been a solid part of the Phillies’ bullpen, but he gave up two runs in the tenth, and with Philadelphia unable to answer with anything in the bottom of the inning, they lost the game 7-5.
