With Boston up 6-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, things were not looking good for the Blue Jays. Suddenly, Toronto comes to life with a home run by Dalton Varsho to score George Springer. With an Alejandro Kirk follow-up home run, the game was now quite a bit closer at 6-3.
In the bottom of the 7th, Anthony Santander hits a 3-run home run to tie up the game. With grand hopes for a walk-off by Vladdy in the 9th, he strikes out. Hoffman pitches two wonderful innings, and the bottom of the 10th starts with Vladdy on second.
With a flyout and a weak throw back into the field, Vladdy takes advantage and goes to third. The Red Sox then walk Santander and Springer to load the bases to get to Kirk. I get the intention of this situation, but it seems overly risky on Boston’s part. And in the end, it doesn’t work out, as Kirk hits a ball into the outfield over everyone playing shallow.
Walk-off Win!
Storybook stuff. Thank you, Alejandro Kirk, for some inspired moments on your bobblehead night.
