After the party atmosphere of Game One, this one was a lot less fun. While we all knew that facing Yoshinobu Yamamoto would be tough, I don’t think anyone fully realized how tough it would be.
With a complete game on 105 pitches, which is also his second in a row, the Blue Jays had little answer to his frustrating curveball, which came out of his windup looking like his fastball, nasty stuff.
Anchored by two solo home runs by Max Muncy and Will Smith, the Dodgers scored more than enough to take game two and even the series.
Behind Yamamoto’s complete-game gem and the solo shots swatted by Muncy and catcher Will Smith in a decisive seventh inning, the Dodgers evened up this best-of-seven with a 5-1 win in Game 2 on Saturday night at Rogers Centre.
P.S. I have to be honest, but the whole “Stand up to Cancer, brought to you by Mastercard” break in the game, especially in person, was super strange. While I understand the sentiment, it felt overly staged, driven more by the brand, and ended with a terrible mini-concert by the Jonas Brothers.
My reaction the whole time was to feel creeped out, and it killed the rhythm and the pace of the game.
