A little while ago — I think on Twitter — I stumbled across the artwork of Daniel at Pop Fly Pop Shop. As a fan of comics, baseball and superheroes, I fell in love instantly with the style of his weekly, limited edition art prints. So I signed up for his newsletter hoping that one day there would be a design that would resonate with me so that I would have to buy it!
Finally, on October 7th, 2021, that fateful day would arrive.
Of all of the Montreal Expos players that could have ended up on that week’s artwork, I would never have guessed it would be the man with a howitzer for an arm, Ellis Valentine. Ellis played right field with the Expos from 1975 – 1981 and was one of the most promising and talented players to ever come up through the Montreal farm system. But, unfortunately, he struggled with some personal issues and injuries and never lived up to everyone’s lofty expectations.
After some unfortunate UPS duty issues, I got my limited edition version of the art print, and I couldn’t be any happier. Here’s a link directly to the artwork on the Pop Fly Pop Shop if you want to take a look yourself.
