I last visited Chicago as recently as December 2023, but it has been quite a while since I visited it to take in some baseball. With my last visit to see the Cubs going back to 2017 and the White Sox even earlier, I needed to get back. With the Blue Jays visiting Wrigley for a series this August, I found the perfect reason to get back.
Over the six days I was in the city, I got to one White Sox and two Cubs games and spent some time doing many of my favourite Chicago things.
As I was still working half days during the week, I made it to the Lincoln Park Zoo, Millennium Park, Art Institute and Navy Pier. I’m also happy that the trip wasn’t only focused on staying in the Loop but also led to walking through and exploring neighbourhoods like Logan Square, Wicker Park, Wrigleyville, and Andersonville.
On top of eating the usual great food that Chicago is known for — deep dish pizza, Chicago dog and Italian beef sandwiches — the highlight was an evening at Hopleaf. In addition to a solid meal and friendly and attentive staff, I finally got a chance to try Jeppson’s Malört, a much despised bitter, wormwood-flavored liqueur. I actually quite liked it, but I also enjoy bitter drinks.
