With the Blue Jays struggling to get any runs in, Dalton Varsho finally offered Toronto a glimmer of hope with a home run in the 7th inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. then opened the game up and gave Toronto a 4-2 lead on a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. With the Maple Leafs’ playoff game happening at the same time and attendance at the Rogers Centre low, the home run woke the crowd, providing a jolt of energy to the stadium.
