Pacific Central Station, Vancouver, BC

I love to take the train. It may not be the fastest way to travel it is usually the most scenic and the most distraction-free way to get between two cities. When I realized that I would have about four days off between two conferences in Vancouver, I chose to take the Amtrak Cascades to Seattle.

Opened in 1919, the Pacific Central Station is an underused heritage building that offers only a few daily by Amtrak and Via Rail. Unlike Amtrak’s Toronto and Montréal service, one clears US customs at the station with just a brief stop at the border. Most of the trip is along the coast and offers a great view of some traditional Pacific north-west scenery.
