After getting in a series of games in Seattle, Milwaukee & Chicago, I was looking forward to my next series in Toronto. With four games against the Yankees and three with the Angels, the Blue Jays have the opportunity to change the dynamics of the AL East, currently in third place but only three games back from the division leaders, New York.
With the Blue Jays unable to get anything off of Carlos Rodón through the first four innings, once they managed to string together some hits and get one run off of him in the fifth, it was clear that they had finally figured him out. So, when Ernie Clement hit a double off of him to lead off the bottom of the sixth, Aaron Boone quickly pulled him from the game. With the bullpen one of the weaker parts of the Yankees’ makeup, Toronto took advantage of the situation and scored four runs in the sixth.
Other than two bad pitches, Max Scherzer looked good tonight, so there is hope that the future Hall of Famer can string together a few good outings this season. I also fully support walking Judge if there is any opportunity to do damage in front of him.
At the end of the evening, the Blue Jays still stood in third place but now only two games back from the Yankees in the AL East.
