The Blue Jays win the ALCS 4-3 to advance to the World Series

While there is no such thing as a sure thing in sports, I was feeling anxious yet confident about the Blue Jays’ chances of winning game seven and making it to the World Series.

The Mariners struck first with a double by Julio Rodriguez, who scored on a single by Josh Naylor. In the bottom of the first, Dalton Varsho singled to bring in George Springer, who had walked earlier in the inning. Seattle scored again in the third on a solo home run by Julio Rodriguez and then again in the fifth on another solo home run by slugging catcher Cal Raleigh.

By the time we got to the bottom of the seventh inning, I was getting quite worried. The Mariners were chipping away, and Toronto’s bats were quiet.

As we were starting to get late in the game and the Mariners were still up 3 – 1, things were not looking great, until the bottom of the seventh, when Addison Barger walked and Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled to get two men on base. After Andrés Giménez put down a sacrifice bunt to get both runners into scoring position, the right person was coming to the plate to hopefully do some damage.

In what is probably one of the top five and arguably the second most important home run in Toronto Blue Jays history, George Springer hits a three-run home run to give the Blue Jays the lead.

While I know the World Series games are going to be even more exciting than the ALCS, being at this game for a win was more exciting and enjoyable than I could have ever imagined. I made a lot of new friends that night.
