While the Yankees did everything they could to chip away all game long and even tie things in the eighth inning, the Blue Jays were destined to win this game.
Starting off with a seven-run first inning to hammer New York’s pitching, Toronto let them know they get to them any way they want. Here’s how the inning played out:
- Andrés Giménez single
- George Springer single
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. walks
- Alejandro Kirk doubles, 2 RBI
- Addison Barger HR, 3 RBI
- Ernie Clement grounds out
- Will Wagner walks
- Davis Schneider HR, 2 RBI
- Myles Straw flies out
- Andrés Giménez single
- George Springer strike out
Blue Jays ended the bottom of the first inning up 7-0, and Will Warren’s ERA goes from 4.37 to 5.09.
The Yankees finally had their moment in the top of the fifth, with big hits from Judge and Stanton, to bring them within two runs. While they continued to close in on Toronto and eventually tied the game, it was the Blue Jays that took advantage of a weak bullpen in the bottom of the eighth. With Springer scoring on a walk pitch and then a single by Barger, Toronto went up 11-9 and notched their third win in a row against the Yankees.
With tonight’s win, the Blue Jays are now tied with the Yankees atop the AL East at 48-38 and clearly have the momentum right now.
